Linkage Wednesday

I have a back up of links I wanted to share with you!

First up are a set of two videos. If I presented these to my students, I’d ask, “Who is the audience for these? What is the topic? Point?” Do you recognize the song they are singing?”

and

Did you recognize the song yet? As the lyrics came to me (in English) I did a google and found it! I think I am right. Here is the link to the lyrics.

Here is a post about MFA’ers vs PhD’ers and since I have an MFA and toy with the idea of the PhD, I couldn’t help but read it!

And everyone needs a story to read. Even if it isn’t necessarily happy . . .

I talk often about reading your work out loud, and look here is someone else who agrees! (I even mention how much I love to read work out loud in an interview I did with Robert Lee Brewer over at Poetics Aside)

And another video? Sure! This is Pat Rivere-Seel reading at the Green Rice Art Gallery in September. I assigned the book she talks about in the video:

Next up is an essay I might use for a future class from a writer whom may have been the first “writer” I actually met back when I was a freshman in high school. And, even better, I also am working on an essay titled “When Did Math Begin to Suck” so here is a take on the trouble with math by Michael Parker, fiction writer.

I could have called this Video Wednesday but have to share this, which may be the final video for Shape of a Box under my direct stewardship. Still looking forward, in the near future, to announcing the new home for Shape. Warning! PG-13

For text of the poem in this video click here

Goodness what else do I have? Too many more, so since I added so many videos in here, we’ll just leave this as is and maybe I’ll put some more links up tomorrow with poem share and others on submitting on Friday as they would be theme appropriate.

Have some links to share? Do so in comments!

Video Wednesday

I don’t know how often I will be doing video round-ups anymore. 1 – because I’m just not using YouTube as much as I used to so, ya know, I can get more actual writing done 2 – I just don’t have as much of a desire to make videos as I used to and the previous issues with software, hardware etc to make videos happen. But, since there are some good vids still noted in my Evernote account I have to go ahead and share what is pending!

First up is a really neat video by one of my favorite YouTubers, Ruth, aka Ghostwritten87. Ruth has written a story and then tells it with the help of a white board. Love it!

Next up is one that is making the rounds of the web and while it is not hysterical the scenario is pretty funny: poet Paul Muldoon discussing the “singer” Ke$sha:

And the third is one I took, a clip, from the last Charlotte Writer’s Club meeting where long time poet and teacher Irene Blair Honeycutt gives some really good advise about the act of writing poetry that really can apply to all writers so take a peek. Under 5 minutes!

I am wearing out the free McAlister’s Deli wifi and my new netbook. Can it handle me? :)

Video Tuesday

People who subscribe to my YouTube channel have already seen this vlog but you guys need to see it as well! In this short vid I try to do justice to Bryan Borland’s My Life as Adam:

Next up is a short clip I made at the Charlotte Writer’s Club’s meeting last week. If you click through to the video and watch it on YouTube you can see in the sidebar links to the writers who were on the blogging panel.

When I re-evaluated my YouTube usage I took my favorite vid makers and subscribe to them via RSS feed. This week I’ll put up a newcomer to YouTube whose blog I already follow. Yep, its Val!

Hoping next week to do a vid more about my book but I do have some events going on this week so depends on what kind of footage I end up with. If you are on YouTube consider subscribing to me – charlottepoet – and I’ll consider subscribing to you!

Video Tuesday

For my first video of the week, I chat about Olive Kitteridge the Pulitzer Prize winning novel in short stories by MFA faculty, Elizabeth Strout. Thanks to Margaret LaFleur for swapping books with me so I could read it!

How about some more fiction for the day? The audio is a bit quiet but the reader is so much fun to listen to. This is a piece called Invasion by Cynthia Ressner.

And for a final fiction note. Why not a clip from Pulp Fiction? You know there will be swearing. But, that is still such a great film

Guess, I’m on a bit of a fiction kick with one story accepted for publication and three more submitted with at least two more in the works. They are all under 1000 words so I’m still not wordy while writing fiction. I’m just excited to have another creative outlet. I love reading fiction but I always had a hard time writing it. What’s next, a play? Ha! No!

Hope everyone is having a good week. I’m back to sending work out to lit mags and working on the 2nd poetry collection, again. Thought I’d given up hadn’t you :)

Btw, if you have a YouTube account, why not link to it in comments so I can subscribe to you? You can subscribe to me or just stop in for a peek at CharlottePoet

Video Tuesday

This week will be some additional vids from the most recent Queens Univ of Charlotte MFA grads. For some reason some of these end up very quiet so I apologize for that.

First up, is a poet I was able to mention in my thesis reading because he ardently defended one of my poems – which, perhaps I’ll post this week on Thursday Poem Share – and besides that he is just awesome! He even has a book out already. Woo hoo for Scott Wilkerson!

Next in no particular order except this just happened to be how I typed them is David Locke who I am so glad I got to know as I was finishing up my degree. Rock on David!

And finally in this initial list is sweet home Georgia boy, Tony Galloway:

I also decided to make a PLAYLIST of all the various reading clips I made from this year and from a year ago when I did my thesis reading.

Feel free to link  to any videos you might have seen around or drop some comments here or on the comment sections of the YouTube vids. Nothing from me this week. Unless you wanted a video punctuated with the sound of hammers in the background.

Video Roundup

Yep a Friday video round up because I wanted to get in my Open Mike from last night. I am TOTALLY selfish that way :)

First up is this week’s issue of Shape of a Box, a short fiction piece by Stacy Muszynski. Click here to have the text of the piece and bio in the side bar or view below:

Then I recorded Poetry Hickory on Tuesday. It was another great evening.  My only complaint? Everyone talks about audio and picture quality – guys – I do this for free! With what equipment I have! :) To see the side bar on this with links to books and such click here or watch below:

And then my Open Mike reading where I read a poem from one of Scott Owens’ books and one of my own from the new Artifact series I am working on.  Click here for sidebar info or watch below:

And finally a new one I found on YouTube. NCArts Council is now on YouTube:
