Video Tuesday

First up is the current video at Shape of a Box, a short story by Holly Woodward:

For our second video, I present a very silly video of me celebrating my upcoming book publication etc:

And then I got a message from another Southern poet who is on YouTube:

Hope everyone is having a great week.  Getting video caught up is taking so much time today! whew! Ah the hard work of the unpaid poets and editors :)

Video Round-Up

Our first video is this week’s issue of Shape of a Box, 2 poems by Michael Lee Johnson who helped on an earlier video by providing the audio. Thanks Michael! Click here to see the sidebar text of the poems:

My second video is one I did to talk about, Netroversion – maybe a term I made up? No need for the side bar on this one, but just some thoughts I had as a follow-up to my Networking FTW class:

And third is one, from a series of videos, that Green Apple Books has been presenting about Book vs Kindle.  It may be a bit of a one-sided debate but the videos are fun:

Hope everyone is continuing to have a good week. I feel a bit out of it, myself probably from a combination of job hunting and trying to work on my zombie poems.

I think after three weeks of looking for a full-time job without a nibble I’m just feeling a bit down.  I know three weeks isn’t a long time but I’ve always been one who has had to work on their patience :) And I really hate that when I update  my resume on Careerbuilder I get 9 million – sell insurance offers. No. Not going there.

The zombie poems still seem to be getting away from me but I can’t seem to stop writing drafts.  I must be up to about 10 after the last 5 days so it will be interesting to see what happens when I start typing these up.  I like to give the poems at least a week in my journal before I start typing them up.  Again. Patience.  If I type too quickly, edit too fast the poems always go out into the world unready.

And there is nothing worse than publishing a poem that forgot to put on matching shoes . ..

Video Wednesday

Hello Video Wednesday lets get to some linkage!

First up is this weeks issue of Shape of a Box where we have a short story by Aly Robalino.

Next up is me launching Heron into the world. You’ll see what I’m talking about

And how about another writerly person?

And last but not least is not a video but some news.

  1. I started a writers Ning, social networking site, where we can meet up to chat, discuss issues in forums, start private groups, host classes etc. It is Folded Words - sharing words. Join us!
  2. For those in the Charlotte area I mentioned my August 15th class, see classes tab, but I’m also in the process of updating all my sites for my next class: Caught! Capturing Moments with Cameras and Keyboards. You do not have to have a camera or be a photographer to take this class.  I will be using the language of photography to shine a new line on the writing process. The course is $100 and will last from Sept 1 – Sept 29.  Weekly assignments and discussion will be conducted and work (any genre) will be critiqued by moi for you. What a steal! More details to follow but reg is open until August 25th, course will be 100% online and a great deal of phone! payment via paypal to jessie.carty(at)gmail.com.  Maybe I’ll throw in a copy of my chapbook to the first person who signs up? hmmmm

Have a great day everyone! I’ve got more class prep to do :)

Video Tuesday

It is always fun for me to start this blog post and to see how long it takes me to actually finish it as I update Shape of Box and make my vlog for the week.

This week I am starting at 8:23 am and really, I was done with making the video (I do it in spurts) by lunch time but I’ve been uploading since then (it is now 2:41pm) so my plans to leave by 2:30 didn’t work out because I want to actual annotate the video. Argh and double argh! Sometimes YouTube is SOOOO slow. So now it is 3:10 and the video is uploaded but still updating or whatever. Man, I’d really like to go ahead and go out but I want to finish this (Don’t you like just venting along with me before you even get to watch the video!) And 3:40 I can finally LEAVE, for what? Oh yes Charlotte Writers Club tonight at 7pm, Joseph Beth Booksellers.

This weeks issue of Shape of a Box is a short humor piece that you can read by clicking here or you can watch without the text below:

Next my vlog about the weight loss journey:

Then how about some poetry:

I’m a Goober

I thought I was ahead of the game with pre-recording some poems and making a video that I thought would air weeks from now. But oops! I got slightly ahead of myself and I was missing next weeks issue.  Good thing I figured out a way to put the videos up without putting an issue number on them :) So now I need to finish up my “back up” video.

Good thing is that #7 is done and #8 is being made by someone else still. #9 should be my interview with a local writer. More on that to come.  Waiting on audio for an issue (10?) another video from a contributor (11?) and my asst editor is working on another (12?).  They are wracking up but I still feel like i’m behind.

Didn’t help that the internet was down this morning. Although it was meant to be because I was able to find me hubby this game he wanted.  I found it at the second store I went to but they hadn’t even put it on the shelf yet and already there was me and two other people there to buy copies (there were only 10 copies).  Hopefully it’ll be more fun then the last couple of games we have bought.

So I’m a Goober! Sue me! (well don’t, I don’t have any money anyway!)

Issue #5 of Shape of a Box is up

Yep, issue #5 of Shape of a Box is up. Terrifc poem this week :)

Issue 6 is being made by the author.  Issue 7 is in the bag (the forever video) and I’m working on what might be Issue 8 but I also have an author interview lined up for next week that I’d like to get in before Christmas. So that is potentially issue 8 and 9 and then the 10th I have the mp3 files for now just need to get pics to go with. Whew!

I’ve been getting lots of thoughts from different people about what they would like to see in the video poems.  Some of the concerns are just outside of my ability given the equipment I have, but others I am able to do more with like using more  music from the public domain and uncopyrighted photos.

Still looking for more editors who live in different areas to help take audio and video and I think I’m reading to launch my contest at the first of the year so a lot of good things are coming together.

I’d love to hear from you guys about the videos and about contests.  How much do you think is a reasonable entry fee? How much money do you expect to win if publication is also a prize? Etc

And to our men and women who have served our country. I salute you!
