Thursday Poem Share

Apparently there is little I have finished recently because I don’t have much to mention in the way of items read and/or watched.

I did watch a quirky little movie called Jesus Henry Christ. Kind of has that Rushmore feel to it. I just enjoy movies that explore those who fall outside of the norm.

I am continuing to work on what are roughly prose poems, or will they be stories? Are they a series? It all remains to be seen. I started this one in my notebook last Thursday and I typed it up and worked on revisions over the last week. Is it done? What do you guys think?

–and I’ll go revise the poem. Perhaps I can find some chocolate to munch on, toooo

As always any work I post, or that you post in comments, will be removed one week from today so feel free to join in the conversation.

I actually had 7 poems that were newish and/or recently rejected that I was able to get out in submission packets this week. I had not submitted since January 10th so it has been slow going for me on that front. I did get an acceptance from a submission I sent out at the end of 2012 for an online journal I haven’t been in before so that was exciting! Do you guys have any news to report about where you are submitting etc?

Mostly this has just been a good week to catch up on freelance stuff after most of the monthly long cold thingie has left me and to start looking for other types of work. I have updated my Services page as I will continue critique work and more one-on-one “classes” for those who are interested. Here’s too finishing out a pretty decent week.

  1. Interesting poem Jessie. I wrote a piece called ‘I’d Rather Death By Chocolate’, and I adore it. I am trying to get some work done, so I can come back and post something. I am writing, but nothing I am crazy about right now.

  2. I got nothing to share, but thank you for sharing your prose poem! I need to keep reading those, and trying to write them. Congratulations on submitting and on the acceptance! Yay to a good week!

  3. Okay, I hope no one thinks this is morbid. I have been trying to write something under this title for years, because it has been a teasing conversation after something happened with my husband years ago…not sure what I will do with it, or if it is where I want to head as far as form…but it reminds me of my love for prose. Jessie I have bought some really good prose books. There are some good prose authors out there.

    —great piece of prose!

I really got into the whole burial thing seeing how my grandmother and others in NOLA were using up such little space over miles and miles of more modern landscape cemeteries of the 20 century design, sprawling. The bodies breakdown in a little more than a year, so others can be placed in and use the space more efficiently.

      • Long story short? I don’t “work” on the weekends, and only do responses that I can do on my phone so… LOL that’s why I am back today! (What you want to know about Monday? I was out of town. Hehe. Long weekend perhaps?)

    • Have you picked up any memoirs and/or books of essays? There is so much you could do with this piece. It could be worked into a personal essay, or you could do some more research (the decomposition of bodies and such) which could turn it into more of an article with citations etc. Great descriptions in here. Only thing I’d work on is to watch for run-on sentences, but really just continue to dig in. I think prose is calling you :)

    • I love your long stuff, Elizabeth . .I wanna be able to write like that some day! :) And loved your piece here . . .have thought about that too! So good to have you back. Maybe you will inspire me, rub off on me!
