I’m ducking my head in as my first week (well half week) of classes finishes up. I have some notes that I want to work on for a possible poem, but I don’t actually have a new poem to share with you. Sorry! That happens
I did have some poems rejected recently from another journal I really love that had personal comments so that was terrific news to receive. Funny the one they commented on I still felt was strong so I sent it back out without any other revisions. I think the right editor will take it, someday.
I had double good news from “Wild Goose Poetry Review” this week in the form of one of my own poems appearing in their virtual pages, and a review of An Amateur Marriage. You should stop by to read the issue, and I bet you’ll find some other very familiar names there. I also read the latest issue of decomP online. But, mostly I’m just getting back into the swing of the semester. My last class of the week is in 30 minutes, and then I need to finish some prep work before I can head home and start on one of my other jobs which involves laundry. LOL.
I still hope those of you who might have poems to post this week (or other genres) will feel free to share in comments. I will still take them down a week from today. I’m also looking at potential textbooks for new writers so if you have ever used a multi-genre (or two-genre say fiction and poetry) book that you thought was just awesome how about give it a shout out here?
Hope everyone had a great week, and I’ll “see” you soon
Happy Friday!
I got a rejection today too. No biggie though. I do believe every poem eventually finds a home. Even if that home is in a file waiting to be re-born for awhile. Ha ha. Like mine may be doing for a bit. I haven’t looked at them since I submitted them three months ago, and I haven’t looked at them yet since I got the rejection earlier today–who knows, if they need some revising maybe a wave of inspiration will hit. We’ll see.
I think I already told you Jessie, how cool I thought your poem was…and I haven’t had the chance to read decomP yet….this weekend is filled with playdates and sleepovers, so don’t know when I will!
As has been the way all summer, the poems are only trickling in….but I do have a few drafts and I submitted a super short under 200 word story the other day–completely impulsive. I’m just kind of feeling meh about everything I’ve written lately….So I will post this one, which was inspired by a line in a Strokes song…I’m not sure if I like the rhythm of it though…but look forward to feedback from you guys…
—the poem didn’t fall apart, but it is gone for now
Congratulations, Val, on submitting! I think that is huge and an accomplishment right there, no matter if it gets accepted or not.
I really, really liked Always Falls Apart. It is full of those classic Val phrases. You leave us with images like no one else can. This is more than ‘meh’ .. .way more.
Thanks Debbie…
you have such a cool poem started here. I like this idea of fire melting glue and scissors like a poetic game of rock paper scissors. I’d keep playing with it. squeezing even more out and you should go back to read some Yeats – of course
Congrats on doing some submitting and writing! every little bit counts.
That’s cool you think that because I kept thinking rock paper scissors as I was drafting it! I agree about squeezing more out too. Gotta go read some Yeats now.
How cool is this Val! I learn from you…
Awwww. Thanks Elizabeth.
Good for you, Jessie, sending the poem back out that was strong! And what a great poem and review! I know I’ve read about Bop poems , but need to look it up again. Yours was so good and I love how you play with words.
Barely getting anything down, but will go ahead and share, ’cause that’s what we do here!
–night, night poem
ohhh I like this one Debbie! I can already picture it paired with photography for something like referential. if I could find the right photo!
I need to try a bop again. neat form
My poems right now are from what I see visually, so they really do need a photo with them. haha!
I love this one Debbie! I always like the way you say so much so compactly. You should think about submitting too!!
Val’s right..compact and great! I like visuals too Debbie, I used to write from prompt photos, but never went back to make them work along…hmmm, I challenge myself! LOL
I checked out dComp when I was choosing the name for Z-composition, and will go over to check things out. I already get the feed for the other and saw your work! Congrats Jessie. I too am struggling with writing a solid poem the past two weeks. Lots of bits and piece drafts though. Joining a new group of storytellers this weekend, we were challenged to write a boast, which I am taking to some poets at an open mic I really enjoyed. I kind of felt like a teacher when three young men came up to tell me they had heard me read before and my work rocked. I felt humbled and happy at the same time! Here is my boast in place of a poem, tell me what you think…
–poem is gone!
I am smiling SO BIG! Your boast is awesome , Elizabeth. You DO rock!
fun! I’m reading an article right now about how hip hop artists denote their rhymes and beats. this has that definite “beat-box” kind of feel for it. I’d play that up even more
I can’t wait to post for the next poem share !!! I wrote something that reminds me of Debbie!
I’m so impatient…sigh
head down like a waiting child with her shoe dragging back and forth LOL
I’m typing it up as we type!
