I’ve mentioned in a few other posts that I’m struggling a bit right now with writing. Besides blogging, grading and writing over and over again “I can’t think of anything to write”, that is.
I’m a firm believer in putting in the time because “inspiration” doesn’t always happen, but I will admit it is draining to get to the desk day after day and do SOMETHING.
To try and help others along I thought I’d share this neat article about colors and how we perceive them and/or name them.
I also enjoyed this other article about the movie Say Anything. I adore that movie and I really enjoyed reading how the author looked to the actual story of the movie, picking out what made it so unique.
This week I did a lot of catching up including working on submission packets, updating my online class, walking and reading. I’m currently starting some research on the Korean poetry form Sijo, but my big focus next week will be on the demo/workshop/teaching gig I’ll be presenting as part of the Summer Writing Project that I’m attending. I’m going to ask the participants to write their own Ars Poetica.
Will you?
Hope everyone had a great week and that your weekend will be splendiforous
I manged to submit exactly on poem (yes, poem) this week. I have done a bit of revision. It’s too hot and I’m too busy to write. LOL When in doubt, read Facebook.
One is better than the none I had for several weeks in a row! Can’t wait to see you tonight!
Same here. Bill’s excited, too. Told me to make plans.
I hear you on not being able to write Jessie. Hang in there though, it’ll happen. I’m not sure, when you said ‘get to the desk’ whether or not you meant a literal desk. If you did, how about just taking a notebook and pen and going somewhere else? I’m sure you’ll have tried this, but I just thought I’d put it out there just in case. I’m looking into ways I can break up the routine of writing I have too and am thinking it might involve my phone and dragon dictation or my digital recorder.
I’m looking forward to reading the articles you linked to later on tonight.
Thank you for those!
I did sort of write an Ars Poetica I guess. I’m going to put it in a comment on yesterday’s Poem Share.
All the very best with everything that’s happening Jessie, from submitions to summer-long writing projects. Have a fabulous weekend!
It is good to change things up. And i am typing this in front of a mall Starbucks during a break in my walking after scribbling a page of babbling about a green loaf of bread. Yes you read that correctly! It may not amount to a poem, story or essay but it had been a lingering thought I needed to at least journal into my notebook
I haven’t written a poem since all the 30 this past April. Know how you feel about the struggle to write..happens to me all the time. My cure for the “block” is get a new puppy… the blank screen suddenly becomes a quiet retreat.
Regards,
Doug
My cats would most likely not welcome the puppy
We just have to remind ourselves that writing is a wave and right now I’m dunked under!
We did an Ars Poetica in a poetry workshop I took, and it was one of my favorite exercises.
Glad to hear things are going well (and so busy!). Enjoy the Summer Writing Project!
I hope the students enjoy it
Just curious, have you done any screenwriting, Jessie? The color article was fascinating too. Who knew? I think I wrote a couple of ars poetica poems during that April POD time. ha! Nothing like pressure to write everyday to bring that out of me.
Looking forward to the weekend too! Have fun!
I’ve tried a few plays in my day but I definitely prefer acting in one to writing one
my dialogue writing skills are weak (and apparently in the passive voice!)
I should sleep now
