I’m very late getting to the Friday Wrap-up because my husband was off from work yesterday and today. I’ve gotten to where I need to be alone in the house to work or I have to be in a crowd of strangers at like a coffee house or something so I only checked in a few times on my phone but no time to post or really do the meet of writerly work.
Till now!
- S: 1 essay and 1 set of photos (yep trying to submit photos again)
- A:
- R: my long poem was rejected
I’m a bit overwhelmed with this week and I have a ton of windows and documents open right now in the hopes that I can clean up my to do list which has really, really gotten away from me. Perhaps that is why little subbing going on? Also little writing and with few rejections nothing coming back to revise!
Hope everyone else had a good writerly week. As always, I love to hear from you with your thoughts on writing and questions so I can come up with other blog posts!
Have a great weekend!
I had a slow week writing, too. I went to Poetry Hickory and GSO for Troy’s birthday, and Victor came here to rebuild my computer. I did submit one packets of poems. I’m tired and ready for this weekend. Lots of chores still to do. My goodness it’ll be Thanksgiving in a minute. Turkey is in the freezer….
See, I’m so tired one feels plural! LOL
Oh I’m feeling it too, Helen! I didn’t make it long at the open mike – didn’t stay – but at least I just did a major overhaul of my to do list so I feel like I might be able to relax, at least a little this weekend. Still trying to decide what to do with this huge thing of rice I cooked..
You can freeze cooked rice and reheat in the microwave.
I did end up eating it, but I’m a lifelong rice eater so I definitely now how to cook the leftovers
You two really work so hard at this! Hoping you get the rest you need. I don’t think most people realize how much work goes into writing poems. . .or writing period. It’s kind of a different world, isn’t it? And Jessie, with all the teaching and what that includes (grading, lessons, planning) how in the world you keep writing is a marvel.
I love that you submitted photos! How cool! I’m not a photographer, but I love pictures that others take. Would like to get better at it and put poems to pictures. There is no end to your talents, girl!
I’m a little low on writing right now. Just not much time, and like you, I’m finding it harder to do while interacting with someone (my daughter, and we are together 24/7. ha! ) Struggling to even get the simple poems and devotions done each day! Maybe we’ll get infused somehow! But you, with FAT Girl in the works, do you find that after getting something major like a chapbook signed to a publisher – and knowing all the work ahead to promote it- do you go through rest periods? And Helen you too, with Seriously Dangerous coming out. Do you just keep writing just as hard, or do you need a time of renewal?
Thanks!
Debbie, it is very true that when you know you have a major project coming out it completely changes your out look for a while. I’m in the early stages of going through revisions on FAT GIRL (reordering poems, line edits) which puts you into a different mind set then actually doing the initial creation of poems. Then I’m also working on the 2nd full length collection still. The poems I have completed recently have been primarily for it, to fill in gaps. I think knowing that I have that book still, with a tentative but not final contract, makes it hard to move onto other projects. What I think I need is time to read stuff I really love. That always inspires me. During the conference I taught at, I created one new poem. I need that other energy once in a while even if I am an introvert by nature!
Where does one submit photos? Hmmm… I was surprised to see you had done this so late, I was on last night, but nothing had been put up. I live vicariously through you, so maybe your plural, a funny by Helen
Not only did I not post until about 6pm but wordpress didn’t sent it out it seems to well after that
I’m still finding my footing about submitting photography. It was a goal for me this year but I let it slide away because I wasn’t sure how to go about it. Working with Referential photographers and artists made me want to get back into it. I’m sending items to lit mags. I’m going to shoot for sending one out a week. If you guys want to know more about that process, let me know and I’ll blog about it
