Sorry I haven’t blogged since Thursday, but I worked and then ran errands on Friday then traveled out of town on Saturday so by Sunday it was avoid most of the computer, people and basically anything but the TV.
- What would Monday be without a good story from PANK?
- In completely unrelated news did you know you can get a copy of my book, Paper House, now in PDF?
- Lots of good stuff is posted at Everyday Fiction. This article is a good one about setting goals.
- Then Mel Bosworth and I interview each other over at Daily S Press. Mel totally has a novella out!
- And then there is the essay Six Days: on learning a new alphabet which I assigned this week to my class.
Almost 9pm before I am finally getting a chance to post this. Really have a lot to catch up which I could probably do tomorrow but I also like the possibility of sleeping in on one of the only days I get a chance to do that
Hope everyone had an excellent Monday and that you are looking forward to the week. I’ll be filling out my first time card, subbing again for two classes and taking my students through pre-writing for their first paper due on 9-8-10.
At least I found some clearance shirts and pants today – even Jessie sized!
Great stuff over here JC- oh and btw way I meant to mention your dad’s wife- hope she is doing fine. I know in my family we have the ‘strain’ of relationships on my mom’s side, enough said.
Wish I could be in your writing class- give me some homework, lol, eck! Outside the fact I love writing, homework was a dirty word. All writing classes however I made great grades!

Thanks for your thoughts on the fam, enough said is right!
We are writing reflective essays for Monday. Perhaps challenge yourself to one
oooooo . . .homework assignments. I kind of like that, kind of need it! ha!
Loved the story at PANK!
And the writing goal advice. And the essay was sooo good too! (Boy, has it been awhile since I tried to write an essay though) And the interview . . .so much fun to hear you guys going back and forth.
I didn’t realize this Mel was the “Freight” Mel. ha!( There was an opportunity to submit work for the “Freight: What are you carrying” prompt at Folded Word.)
Do you know how long you have to sub for? That has to be extra challenging along with what you had already prepared for!!!
Yay for finding some clearance clothes! You need that now, with teaching. I would be in so much trouble, in so many ways and the right clothing would be one of them. ha! Glad you didn’t have to pay full price, because you soon will be a smaller size.
I like to give myself homework assignments once in a while. I’ve always been goal and organization oriented
can you tell? hehe
I know I am subbing for at least the rest of this week but not sure what will happen next week. Either way, though, I have a feeling I’ll be grading the first part since I assigned it but even that is up in the air since I bet the instructor might want to grade her own papers if she is back to work..
I did already buy a bit of a smaller size but I tried to pick up things that I thought I could wear for a while as I lose weight. I lose so slowly that it normally isn’t an issue. And, of course, hoping this time I won’t have the huge weight fluctuations I’ve had in the past. I’ve been overweight for a good 10 years *sigh* ready to end that chapter in my life!
“8 pounds of flaked cod” – I love that PANK story!
I dream of someday being worth enough to be in PANK
I saw this funny skit which reminds me of you and Deb discussing ‘organization’, or maybe its a bit off, but reminded me
The performer is about to go into her ‘essay’ on one topic, stops to pick up something on the floor, gets distracted, laughs and says her OCD is coming out. Then she begins to clean up things around her and talks about something totally different. One reason why I cannot! teach, because I am easily distracted, more ADD/OCD mixed. The skit was funny. See even my paragraph gives you a sense of how I organize.

Oh that would be a funny skit to show to students! Especially since the rest of this week we are thinking about developing thesis/topics for first papers and how best to organize them.
