As I promised, I have video links from my book release party on Saturday. They are short! The one below is the final poem from the book and how I closed out the reading. Besides that the other two short vids my husband took were of my introduction and me introducing the book and reading the first poem in the book.
I subscribe to the poetry vids that Griffin Poetry Prize puts up. This particular post which has a short reading and short interview got me thinking. Is poetry only written from a place of grief?
And for a little HaHa how about Obama, Video Games and Healthcare reform? No embedding on that one.
And outside of videos:
Here is my retired poem I want to see if I can work on again. I think the last time I worked on this was in the fall of 1999. Man, time flies. Can I salvage it? Any of you other guys trying to do some version of write a poem a day in April? What are you doing for National Poetry Month?
–i think this poem turned into some linked haiku…
love your poem,
everything is beautiful here!
Hi Jessie, CONGRATS again!!! I’m looking forward to enjoying the videos! In the meantime, I absolutely vote for exploring Color Wheel. I love the chain of thoughts/colors. Just maybe reconsider the treatment from “red is assumed . . .” through “then treat themselves.” I wonder if you might want to try something even more active/specific there, maybe in first person, but at least in a closer voice — and following up on the “it” that always starts? (“It” being the color wheel, but more . . .)
I thought “Color Wheel” wasn’t going to survive but I have actually reshaped the poem into linked haikus! I think it is going to survive but the section you are mentioning is what was cut first
LOL!!! It will be fun to see all the re-worked poems when you’re done
I think the “Color Wheel” is rolling. Enjoyed the video or you also!!
thanks Clare! I mailed your book today
Really interesting to see your reading. And I loved the videogame-health care skit.
I thought you’d enjoy that health care one. My husband sent me that last week and it cracked me up
Great reading Jessie ,and the Color Wheel is a winner
Margie
I think I salvaged Color Wheel. I might post the revision later!
How wonderful, Jessie, that your husband was there at the opening to take these videos of the event. Equally wonderful is that you are willing to share them, here, on the net. Yet another wonder is that that a woman you first met on the net was at the actual event, in the same time and space as you, to introduce your book. One more wonder to behold — just moments ago, I went to my mailbox … to find your book:-)
it is a wonder what the net can do for us isn’t it! so glad the book arrived. this is probably the only poetry event i will make my husband go
please finish it and remember this of the colors:
“But they’re all, bold as love.
Yeah, they’re all bold as love. ”
axis bold as love jimi hendrix
nice quote! i might have to see if I can weave that in
‘Color wheel’ like poems make me and my head fall in a petite shame ….not the work, the work is brilliant but because no matter how much I try, never be I able to write in such a subtle and proseful manner. Never!
….I admire such work and my guess …I will write one such too, A littllest of help and lots of inspiration from guys like you.
“Thanks”
thanks so much for stopping by Prathmesh!
It all comes with lots and lots of practice and reading of poetry. there are so many writers i read that make me think i shouldn’t just try anymore cause they are so much better than me. i could name HUNDREDS!
Ahh! Thanks so very much ya! ..I’ll surely follow what has be said, try I will.
that’s what this blog is here for! to help keep people writing through seeing my own misery at the work and my joy
