What a whirlwind of week! Poetry Hickory on Tuesday, then Open Mike last night and in the interim I received copies of my book and participated in my first blog talk radio interview. My book is now up on Amazon, GoodReads and Barnes & Noble.com. You can check out the book’s blog if you want more details. I’d love to have some reviews go up
Speaking of the book, funny thing is that my husband listed it on a Reddit thread so if you are a member vote it up and let’s see if a few poetry books can actually sell on Amazon!
- Submitted: 5, 2 sets of poems, 2 cn-fiction pieces and 1 story. didn’t send my manuscript out this week. ran out of time or an idea of where to send it!
- Accepted: 0, but the poem I read in the blog talk interview is up at Vox Poetica.
- Rejected : 2, one assumed set of poems and one set of poems with comments. Journal full
but that is ok that happens!
Did good getting to the gym but was feeling slightly under the weather so really didn’t get in the kind of workouts I wanted until yesterday but then I went and ate too much. Doh! Anytime I start treating my life like a diet, I screw up. Except when it is the debt diet which we are getting better and better at. Alas, still one big bill that needs to be paid off that we consider “bad” debt (ie can’t be written off or that doesn’t involve a car!)
I had planned to go to the NC Poetry Society meeting tomorrow but I am completely whipped from this week. Instead I plan to relax at home and catch up on some reading and my constant re-evaluation of my internet usage. I am revisiting, again, my use of YouTube. I love posting the occasional vids but I am thinking I need to unsubscribe from all but a few vloggers. Argh. Decisions! Same is true for blogs I read. I love them but I have too many that I try to follow.
Do I sound tired? I am a bit but I think working in a different environment is in many ways a bit freeing although I still feel like I am playing catch up. Perhaps I’ll have more catching up time this weekend? or at least time to finish cleaning the house? Did I mention I also finished a book review and an interview among other things?
Or not.
How was your writing, publishing week? My writing has been a bit slow but lots of revising so I’ll count it
Have a great weekend everyone!
Forgot to mention. I am running a special that I will sell both of my chapbooks along with my full length collection, all signed if you want them to be for $30 with free shipping! Limited time!
I really enjoyed the blog talk radio thing.
…..treating my life like a diet hmmmmmmmm
Mr. Economy has come back to life for me so not much writing or reading here.
Even so I had to check you out on WBTR .
peace
thanks for checking out the interview that was a lot of fun
i like that she kept it short, that means more people have time to listen in. If I had time to add other things to my schedule I’d probably start doing something like that as well.
Your write beautifully, in a moment I will be looking again at your Thursday poem but for now I dropped by here, having seen your comment over at my friend opoetoo’s page, so I thought I’d come by and read yours.. and I’m very glad I did.
As I say, you write beautifully. Your narrative is structured and flows smoothly, easy to read, easy to relate to. Seems almost as if I am there listening to you, your ‘voice’ is very natural and in as much as I can sense such a thing it exudes warmth.
I have been writing most of my life and think I know one or two things about the art.
In that sense I deduce that you are a writer with a capital W on that description. That is my perception and it is my of praising you in this, my initial comment, having ‘met’ you, so to say, through your words here for the first time. Your post here is written in such a friendly intimate style that I almost forget your questions are rhetorical. But nevertheless I almost answered them, because of the style and manner, the warmth I refer to.
Ok, that’s me done, but only for the moment, because I am now about to read again your poem and give you my further thoughts on that.
Meantime, did I ask you to come on over and take a peek at my poetry? It’s diverse, varied, covers almost everything and anything and is usually accompanied by the photos I made of the places that inspired me. There also a very few images that are not mine but I always spell out the (c) as unknown or specific.
Come on over, please. Now I am asking you
but if you cannot make time please know that I have you added to my blog roll.
John,
from
England
I have seen your name around PoetTraveler
I will definitely stop by and sit for a spell and, hopefully, if I can ever get my blogreader down to a manageable level I shall add your blog as well!
Thanks for your kind comments. Being conversational and open to people is very important to me so I am glad that this post as well as my poems did that for you
I am glad and grateful you will stop by. My own blogreader is lengthy now too, but I continue to add to it and to follow the names or I could never have a way of knowing about their posts. I get the notification also by email. I delete the email message when I go to the blog page. It kinda works very well but I’m also glad I saw your comment on our mutual friend Opoetoo’s page, because you were not then on my blogroll and I was not then following your blog.
Your conversational style is marvelous. We are all, maybe, seen as “ghosts from the machine” but when someone writes in the way you do it brings such a warm and real presence to the pages and this is delightful and rewarding to see.
John
Hi Jessie–
Very cool about your books being up at Amazon, GR & BN! That’s always a great moment.
I’m going to have to check out- Reddit. I’ve never heard of that. But what a great husband to be helping you get the word out on your book!
congrats and cheers to you!
It’s funny my husband was very slow to get on board with the whole world of writing and publishing but now he is being a sweetheart
John – I’m currently trying to update my blog roll so we shall see how many more I can add and still keep up!
Jessie, thank you very much:)
John
I’m currently waiting to get Paper House, I found a tag on my door today from FedEx and I think it’s your book. I’ve been holding off on doing a vlog until I’m holding both your book and Bryan’s. Then I want to promote it that way okay? I listened to your radio interview with Annmarie and you were polished and articulate. Wonderful stuff Ms. Jessie!
you are awesome!
the radio interview was so much fun. I had to really think back to not doing the ums and the uhs..
now how to promote val’s book..oh how will we do it *maniacal laugh*

Margie
Thanks Margie! I’m waiting on the shipping supplies but I’ll be getting the books out very soon!
Is there somewhere this is recorded and will be re-run again?
I’m in the UK but if the radio channel is also available as an internet broadcast I’d love to listen to your Blog talk radio, Jessie.
John
John if you go to http://www.blogtalkradio.com/aelockhart and click on play that will play the interview at least for now. I’m sure when she adds another interview an archive will start!
Jessie, I’m listening to you talking to annamarie lockhart on voxpoetica, it’s delightful, on several levels; I can now visualise you, get a mental “picture” of you, so to say, and when I listened to you reciting your poem that took me to another level – your gift, your ability as a poetry writer and speaker.
So good to hear your poem, and to listen to your warm, vivaceous, enthused, tone and voice with that wonderful accent.
I also very much enjoyed “paperhouse” too, and heard you talking about this poem with annamarie. Simply wonderful, the whole discussion.
In another domain I used to upload mp3 recordings of me reading of my own poetry but as I have not yet bought any extra storage can’t do this in WP just yet. Maybe soon, I hope.
I have had such a treat, listening to you with annamarie on voxpoetica talkradio. I feel much closer to you now, in the very best sense of that meaning, and it has been a great pleasure to hear your poetry reading.
Thank you, Jessie
John
John – you are so sweet! I think working with mp3′s could become very addictive. I haven’t tried loading them on wordpress but I know other people have done so.
I’m hoping to record several of my poetry events in the near future!
