Before I knew my first chapbook was going to be published, I had already gone through all my revised poems several times looking for a new chapbook and/or poems that would work in my thesis. The first new chapook I put together was intriguing but, after several read throughs, I realized it was a bit flat. I was inspired, however, to try again and today I will start transferring poems into a new document for hopefully my newest chapook, tentatively titled “Body Semantic.” I’ll have to let you know later this week, or next week, if it turned out to be a successful venture.
Still hoping my other chapbook that is circulating will get picked up. I am really proud of the work that is in it and one publisher actually gave me ink on it, so it is possible that both of my chapbooks might find home. My thesis, however, is pretty dead. I think I said this before but since I’m talking about groups of poems I’ll say it again–My thesis is just a collection of poems I worked on during my MFA and just aren’t there yet to be a manuscript. *sigh* I really had such high hopes that I would have a manuscript to publish by the end of the program, but maybe this is like what happens to a lot of ficiton writers–you have to get that first novel written that gets tucked away before you get to the second novel that is publishable.
Or maybe if I publish enough chapbooks someday, someone will want to put them together in a collection? hmmmm…
Going out soon to look into what I’m calling a photo box. Something I’d considered when I used to sell more on ebay but it is this white box, essentially so you can photograph things without having walls in the background etc. I’m really trying to move things forward on the small press idea. Once I have the box and then a book on origami I’ll feel pretty good and may even start opening up the Youtube poetry project to submissions before the end of the year! who knows! Biggest decision now is when to decide to start calculating things as specific expenses for the project? Hmmmm
